Strategies

Introduction

The remit of the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO) includes leading the implementation of the:

Public Service ICT Strategy

The Public Service ICT Strategy, published in 2015, aims to:

  • maximise the contribution of ICT to the delivery of public services to the citizen and to business
  • increase the efficiency of interactions across the public service

This is achieved through implementation across five pillars, namely:

  • Build to Share
  • Digital First
  • Data as an Enabler
  • Improve Governance
  • Increase Capability

Work is underway on the replacement for this strategy, and the intention is to have a new strategy published in the first half of 2021. The new strategy will also replace the eGovernment Strategy 2017 – 2020, which is available to view on gov.ie

GovTech 2019

With the objective of supporting the creation of new jobs in the economy, an event was held to consider the potential of a GovTech sector for Ireland. Cruinniú GovTech 2019 brought together a wide range of stakeholders from across industry, academia, representative bodies and Government Departments.  The objective of this event was to provide recommendations on the actions that would need to be prioritised to enable Ireland to be the best place in Europe to transact digitally with Government; and the best place in Europe to be part of a Tech Start-Up.
